Enabling Advanced Patient Search

Some organizations may require or prefer the features offered in the advanced patient search over the standard search protocol, and therefore, will want it to be the default search utility when users type on the grid to begin their searches. To configure your system for this,

  1. Do one of the following:
    1. Click the Preferences link on the grid.
    2. Click the Presets and Preferences icon above the Time Column and then select Grid Preferences from the slide-out menu.
  2. Click General Options on the side menu if it is not already selected.
  3. Locate the Search Preferences panel (the second panel on the screen), and then enable the option "Typing on the Grid Brings Up Advanced Patient Search."
  4. When using Advanced Patient Search, Direct Keystrokes To: Accept the default focus for patient searches—Last Name—or click the drop-down and select from the following options:
  5. First Name

    MR Number

    SSN

    Birth Date

    The cursor will be active in the selected field whenever advanced patient search is launched.

  6. Choose whether to enable the following option:
  7. Show Advanced Patient Search on New Patient: This option regulates whether advanced search is automatically invoked when a user creates a new patient. Organization may want to use this workflow to ensure that duplicate patients are not being created.

  8. Complete any other Preferences configuration and the click Save to commit your changes.
